First leg done: stay right on the A1, park for free, have breakfast early – and reach the ferry in Kiel in around two hours the next morning.

In brief
Anyone travelling from the Netherlands or Belgium to Denmark, Sweden or Norway passes Bremen on both common routes. Hotel NordRaum sits directly at A1 exit 55: 353 kilometres from Amsterdam, 186 from Groningen. The next morning it's 201 kilometres to the ferries in Kiel and 265 to the Danish border. Family rooms for up to four people, free parking.
Is Bremen on my route?
Yes, on both. From the south and centre of the Netherlands, the usual route runs via Hengelo, the A30 and Osnabrück onto the A1, then via Bremen and Hamburg to the A7 towards Padborg. From the north, the route goes via Groningen and the A28, also to Bremen (route comparison at reisroutes.be). The detour to the hotel is one to two kilometres.
This is how far it is to us, measured with the OpenStreetMap route planner without traffic or breaks: from Groningen 186 km, around two hours · Arnhem 291 km, just over three hours · Utrecht 332 km · Amsterdam 353 km · Eindhoven 364 km, each just under four hours · Antwerp 444 km, just over four and a half hours.
The next morning: remaining distances
From the hotel, again without traffic: Elbe Tunnel Hamburg 107 km, just over an hour · Kiel, Schwedenkai (Stena Line to Gothenburg) 198 km and Norwegenkai (Color Line to Oslo) 201 km, around two hours each · Puttgarden (ferry to Rødby) 257 km · Danish border on the A7 at Ellund 265 km, just over two and a half hours · Copenhagen 571 km · Hirtshals 618 km, around six hours each.
This works out well for travellers to Norway: the Color Line ferry departs Kiel daily at 14:00, and by car you should be there at least 120 minutes beforehand (Color Line). Setting off from Bremen at 9 a.m. after breakfast, you'll reach Norwegenkai around 11 a.m. without traffic. The crossing from Puttgarden to Rødby takes 45 minutes (Scandlines). Your ferry's departure time and check-in deadline are stated in your booking.
Stay overnight before Hamburg, continue early
Hamburg is the bottleneck of the route. In its traffic forecast for the summer holidays, the ADAC writes: "The heaviest traffic is expected on Friday afternoon and evening as well as Saturday morning." The A1 and A7 are on the list of congestion-prone routes there (ADAC traffic forecast). Anyone setting off on Friday after work can stay with us and start early on Saturday: the breakfast buffet opens at 6:00 Monday to Saturday, and at 7:00 on Sundays and public holidays. Have breakfast at half past six, set off, and you'll be at the Elbe Tunnel by around half past seven.
Good news for 2027: the Elbmarsch elevated section of the A7 in Hamburg's port has had eight lanes open since 28 September 2026 (Autobahn GmbH).
For families, dogs and electric cars
With children, choose the family room for up to three people, the family room with connecting door, or two double rooms side by side for up to four people. Dogs are welcome for a fee. Parking in front of the hotel is free, and there's a 22 kW charging station in the car park; 150 kW fast chargers are available right next door.
On German motorways, cars pay no toll (ADAC), and you won't need an environmental sticker to drive to the hotel: Bremen's low-emission zone covers only the city centre, and the hotel in Hemelingen lies outside it.
Book early during the holiday season
In the Dutch summer holidays of 2027, the Northern region starts on 10 July, the Central region on 17 July, and the Southern region on 24 July (Rijksoverheid). Around these dates, it's worth booking family rooms early. Cancellable rates can be cancelled free of charge until 14:00 on the day of arrival.
