The road to Hotel NordRaum: 14 months later

In recent months it has been quiet on the Hotel NordRaum blog. It was anything but quiet at the hotel itself, however, because 2017 was the year of the renovation.

And while at home you might decide on the spur of the moment – watching the evening news on the sofa or leafing through the latest IKEA catalogue – to give your place a completely new look, that decision is anything but easy when you run a hotel: after all, guests should still be able to enjoy their holiday and everything the hotel has to offer while the work is going on.

“Hospitality consists in a little fire, a little food and an immense quiet,” a saying rightly tells us. Oh dear – does the last part still work with drilling noise and all the rest? Today, some 14 months later, we can answer that question with a yes. Because despite the hammering, drilling and sawing, only six guests left early – and a grand total of 26,889 stayed. Thank you very much for that! From now on the Hotel NordRaum has 88 rooms altogether, 56 of which have been given a complete overhaul and 13 of which were created practically out of nothing. We are particularly proud not only of our modern reception and the cosy lobby, but above all of our new breakfast room. And we – and certainly you too, dear guests – can hardly wait for the first warm spring days, because our breakfast terrace is a wonderful place to start the day.

And because numbers are generally more telling – or at least sound more impressive – than the words “numerous”, “many” or “loads”, here are a few more of them:

562 switches and sockets were installed.

Courage to use colour: 670 litres of wall paint and varnish were used up.

6.2 km of cable are hidden behind walls, furniture and under carpets.

Speaking of carpets: 2400 m² of new carpeting provide cosiness.

582 new lamps provide atmospheric lighting.

704 metres: that is how long the new curtains are – if you lined them all up.
